ISRAEL IN ANOTHER ‘WAR’ Must Defend Itself Against Goldstone Report

Image

The initial conflict took 22 days a little more than a year ago. But the reverb from it is still rattling the cages of an Israeli tiger tired of being attacked.

Back in December of 2008, Hamas began launching missiles into Israeli civilian territories, unprovoked. Israel eventually responded militarily, with an attack on Hamas and the state’s infrastructure. Like many similar Arab–Israeli conflicts in recent decades, the war ended as quickly as it began.

What followed was a U.N.-sanctioned inquiry into the use of force by both adversaries, as conducted by former South African judge Richard Goldstone (pictured). Shocking to anyone but those familiar with the confusing tendency by the international community to hold the Palestinians to one standard and the Israelis to another, the Goldstone report concludes that Israel is guilty of “war crimes” for terrorizing the Palestinian people.

As Israel prepares to deliver a stern rebuttal to the report—one that classifies Israel’s actions as a violation of international and humanitarian law subject to a U.N. Human Rights Council judgment—Avi Lipkin is prepared to field interviews for his unique perspective on the situation as a former member of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and a former translator inside the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office.

How can the Goldstone commission possibly see the three-week Gaza war this way? Is the international community in a policy war with Israel and, if so, why? How does Israel plan to respond, and will U.S. President Obama back its ally up?

For answers to these an other questions about the troubling issues related to the Goldstone report and Israel’s increasing role as one nation against the world, schedule an interview with Avi Lipkin by calling Special Guests today.
