MARCH OF ANTI-GUN JUDICIAL NOMINEES CONTINUES: This Time, Feds Push a Man on a State That Already Rejected Him Twice (Larry Pratt resides in DC)

So, what happens when one of the most liberal states in the union votes down a nominee for its state Supreme Court—twice—for being too radical? Washington tries to plug him into a federal seat in that same state.

Larry Pratt, Executive Director of the Gun Owners of America (GOA), has had his hands full this past year fighting the nominations of far leftist, anti-gun judges to federal courts across the country. But the latest nominee for U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Wisconsin, Louis Butler, is over the top.

In an e-mail alert to his constituents, Pratt points out: “The right to bear arms in the Wisconsin Constitution expressly notes that this right is for personal security and ‘any other lawful purpose.’ But in State v. Fischer, Judge Butler was the deciding vote in 2006 to hold that a Wisconsin statute barring carrying a concealed weapon for any purpose, at any time, including in a vehicle, does not violate this right to personal security that the voters of Wisconsin chose to expressly protect in their state constitution. (In other words), he ignored the state constitution in order to impose his anti-gun views on the people.”

Maybe that’s why, when Butler was nominated for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, voters rejected him by a margin of 2 to 1—the first time in 40 years they turned down a state Supreme Court member. Now, thanks to the feds, Butler is back again, knocking on the door of a powerful judicial position at the federal district level.

So, what kinds of rulings and on-the-record statements make Butler such a radical? Why does the line of liberal, anti-gun judicial nominees for federal courts seem to be trending further and further left, from Sandra Sotomayor, to David Hamilton and now Butler? And what realistic threat does a Butler confirmation pose to gun rights in Wisconsin and, perhaps, beyond?
