PRO-LIFE NOT DEAD Nelson Amendments Have to Pass Muster With the House (Chris Slattery is in Eastern Time)
And so it goes on Capitol Hill, where every major piece of legislation is like a heavyweight bout. Just when the Dems landed a healthcare-reform haymaker when they won over anti-abortion Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska to secure their coveted 60th vote, the whole debate is about to go another round.
Chris Slattery, founder of EMC Front Line Pregnancy Centers, is in the trenches of the pro-life movement every day, and he is available for interviews to discuss this highly contentious issue that is shaping up to be the only one left to make or break healthcare reform.
Voicing his alignment with the National Right to Life Committee’s (NRLC) released statement of discontent about the “manager’s amendment” in the Senate bill used to persuade Nelson, Slattery and others are finding a renewed hope in the reverb now coming out of the House of Representatives.
There, interestingly enough, the Reid–Nelson abortion agreement is already showing signs of friction with those on both sides of the issue. Anti-abortion Representatives, such as Bart Stupak (D-MI)—whose anti-abortion amendment to the original House bill was referenced directly in the NRLC statement—flat out doesn’t like Nelson’s compromise and plans to fight it.
At the same time, abortion rights advocates in the House are likewise uncomfortable. And they’re hearing it from groups like Planned Parenthood and NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League), effectively turning up the heat on both sides of the Nelson deal.
For an expert view on this issue, as it relates to this version of healthcare reform specifically, and the heart of our American society in general, schedule an interview with Chris Slattery by calling Special Guests today.
