SICK WITH CABINET FEVER: Americans Ill Over Obama’s Questionable Choices

Just when the nausea was ebbing with the President’s attempted return to his promise of maintaining a politically balanced cabinet, his administration pulled another fast one. Now, his choice for Secretary of Commerce—New Hampshire Republican Senator Judd Gregg—has withdrawn his nomination.

This in the wake of a perplexing and disenchanting string of tax evasion issues with not one, but several other Obama cabinet choices. While Tom Daschle stepped away from the Health and Human Services seat and Nancy Killefer withdrew her candidacy for the Fed’s Performance Czar, Tim Geithner still landed in the Treasury Secretary seat of all places.

For Armstrong, this chain of missteps is troubling for more than the obvious reason that they confirm an apparent epidemic of corruption among Washington’s elite. “Every successful company is built on a set of core values that extend from the top down,” he says. “Obama’s history of judgment—be it in terms of his modus operandi or in his choice of character affiliations—has been questionable, at best, going back to the beginning of his political career. This struggle to fill out his cabinet is not easing anyone’s anxiety.”
